Chkhaveri (Vitis vinifera cv. Chkhaveri) is distinguished by its climatic specificity. Unlike other Georgian varieties, Chkhaveri reaches optimal ripeness under conditions of 1400–1600 mm annual rainfall — exactly the conditions characteristic of Guria's coastal belt. This quality makes it resilient to excess humidity, where other varieties would succumb to disease.

Chkhaveri wine is most commonly rosé or light pomegranate in colour. It is characterised by notes of fresh berry, cherry, and pomegranate, vibrant acidity, and a gentle tannic structure. This style makes Chkhaveri one of the most sought-after table wines.

In recent decades, Chkhaveri has become the focus of natural wine cooperatives. Against the backdrop of the natural wine movement, Chkhaveri occupies a particular niche — its natural acidity and gentle tannins suit oxidative winemaking methods well.
